Adam and I have been big fans of metal and rock for years and have always been involved with music in some form. In addition to that, I have always been a huge fan of loose leaf teas and actually started a small online tea shop in 2011, which I continue to run in addition to BrutaliTeas. The idea for BrutaliTeas came to us in the Winter of 2016 and officially launched in August of 2016. At first the idea was for our own amusement. Adam would come up with puns, and I would try to come up with a tea blend to complement it. As we kept coming up with names and tea blends, we realized we really had something great and unique that we wanted to share with others. From that point on, the two of us spent several months and countless hours building our brand from the ground up and continue to do so presently. We both contribute in our own ways to make BrutaliTeas what it is today. It’s really great to be able to combine things together that you love, and create something that is equally as exciting to others!
Tea is undoubtedly good for health, but how hard is to reach to an audience who is related to alcohol?
Honestly, everyone has been very receptive and excited for the product when they come across it! We even get a lot of people interested that are not normally tea drinkers, or that have never even tried loose leaf teas. I think it’s great to have a product that is suitable for all ages to enjoy. I can say this though...for those that prefer an adult beverage, tea actually blends quite nicely with a lot of different alcohols!
How do you come up with a name for your product and how is this connected to its content?
Coming up with a name that can translate into a flavor is not always easy! When we are coming up with a new tea blend, it usually works one of two ways. We either come up with a blend first and then create a fitting name for it, or we come up with a name first and then create a blend to complement it. There have been many times we’ve heard a song or watched a movie and then asked each other, “how can we turn this into a blend?!”. We’re always being inspired, so there’s a lot of brainstorming involved when coming up with names and blends. We always keep a running list of all ideas, as we are always looking to add new flavors to our menu!
Which is your favourite?
My favorites sometimes change as we add new flavors, but currently my favorite is a tie between our Between the Blueburied and Me and Judas Peach blend. Adam’s favorite blend is Strawbury Your Dead.
What is the feedback that you receive from people and what needs to be done to make this effort profitable?
Since we’ve launched in August, we’ve gotten great feedback and support! Everyone gets super excited for the product and we absolutely love that. The excitement and enthusiasm keeps us motivated, and it makes all the work we put into the business so worthwhile. We want to keep the momentum going, so we do our best to do new releases as often as we can to keep people interested. We have even recently branched out into making blends inspired by horror films, as I’m also a huge horror buff and wanted to create something for all the horror fans out there! We are fans of our inspirations just as much as our customers, and I think that translates into our products and will help BrutaliTeas continue to grow.
I assume you want to ship tea worldwide. Could you please tell me about your future plans?
We would absolutely love to share our tea blends with the world! Since we are still fairly new, we are still determining the best way to go about international shipping of our products. While we do not currently offer international shipping on our website, we do happily accept international order inquiries via email! We will do our very best to accommodate potential international orders. So for those of you in other countries outside of the USA, please feel free to contact us...we would love to hear from you!
